The Sustainable Practices for Solid Waste Management project is expected to be implemented by SOS Children’s Villages-The Gambia and Hermann-Gmeiner Fonds Deutschland (HGFD) with funding from the German Federal Ministry for economic cooperation and development (BMZ). The project is developed on the basis that serious child rights violations maybe happening at the dumpsite due to poverty, social exclusion and exposure to pollutions by nearby communities of Manjai Kunda, Dippa Kunda and Bakoteh. Due to the proximity of the Bakoteh dumpsite to the SOS children’s Village- The Gambia, this project rightly falls under priority program of SOS Children village-The Gambia in addressing child rights violations of Bakoteh dumpsite by tackling its underlining root causes such as poverty and efficient waste management practices. The main objective of the project is to stop child rights violation of Bakoteh dumpsite by improving its management. The project intends to support at least 300 families of vulnerable community members and users of the dumpsite. This will include training and entrepreneurship support to at least 100 youths and technical and indirect support to 100 stakeholders through awareness raising and sensitizations and provision of some of required facilities and infrastructures at the Bakoteh dumpsite.
